Customer Background:
     A nationwide home builder had contracted with a Solid Surface Manufacturer to use their wide variety of solid surfaces for countertops within the builder's homes. The potential home buyers are permitted to select the color and style of countertops from solid surface samples provided in each of the model homes. The 2" x 2" samples were made from the solid surface material and presented in a slotted presentation box capable of holding 50 sample tiles.

Customer Challenge:
     As the number of potential home buyers touring the builder's model homes increased the number of solid surface samples decreased. This left fewer and fewer solid surface samples for those later home buyers. It became apparent that the solid surface sample tiles were "walking off" and despite good intentions were never to return. Representatives of both the home builder and Solid Surface Manufacturer spent more and more time ensuring that the model home displays had the requisite solid surface sample tiles for the potential buyers to select from.

Customer Desires:
     To fabricate a solid surface display board on to which the complete set of sample tiles could be: easily displayed, easily identifiable, but permanently mounted to reduce loss. Each display board would be customized to promote an individual home builder, development location, and/or model home. The display board should be constructed from the manufacturer's basic White Solid Surface. The display board should be of sufficient size to clearly display the samples, yet small enough to be held by potential home buyers.

MBSI Solution:
     MBSI Graphics worked with the manufacturer's representatives to layout the appropriate display board. A prototype display board was cut from the manufacturer's White Solid Surface. A series of recessed pockets were cut into the board in which to place each of the solid surface sample tiles. The lettering identifying the home builder, the solid surface manufacturer, and each of the sample tiles was then laser engraved into the display board and color filled per customer request.
